  2. QUESTION:
Why does our breath smells so terribly in the morning when we wake up.?
I brush my teeth 3 times a day.

1 in the morning, 1 on midday and one before i go to bed.

So why does our breath smell like animals feces in the morning?

    • ANSWER:
This can be caused by what you ate the night before but, usually, it's from the plaque build up in your mouth overnight. It still doesn't matter that you brushed your teeth before bed, these bacteria will always be there.

Bacteria love the mouths of humans because they're warm, wet and dark. All day, these bacteria leave their waste products in your mouth. This waste product, plaque, is basically their feces. This helps cause the bad breath. To get rid of it, brush and floss your teeth and brush your tongue. Yes, brush your tongue - these bacteria really love the tongue because there are plenty of hiding places on its surface. You don't need additional products like tongue brushes or scrapers, just use your regular toothbrush. Brushing your tongue also eliminates most, if not all, of the need for mouthwashes.

  6. QUESTION:
What's some tasty dressing to put on a salad?
I usually would use Ranch, but I recently found out that I have a milk allergy. The milk was causing me to have really bad breath, it smelled like feces, so I was told by my doctor to stay away from milk for a month and my bad breath went away. So, no dressing with milk in it :)

I don't like Italian, so any more suggestions? Also, is there some I could make at home with main ingredients?
    Please, don't say Italian. I just said I don't like Italian :D

    • ANSWER:
Ranch dressing was the most difficult thing for me to give up when I became a vegan...and I also have a milk allergy!

I eventually got so tired of having salads without dressing (I'm VERY picky about dressing...ranch was the only thing I would tolerate) so I figured out how to make dairy-free ranch dressing myself. It's a super simple, super customizable recipe:

1 cup mayonnaise (I use vegan mayo, but you don't have to)
1/4 to 1/2 cup of soy or almond milk (depending on the consistency you want, you can add less or more)
      1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
      1/2 teaspoon onion powder
      1/4 teaspoon black pepper
      2 teaspoon chopped parsley

Mix well, refrigerate, and you're done!

  7. QUESTION:
What would make my spayed yorkie bleed? Her breath has been smelling bad lately also.?
She is 4 years old and up to date on everything. She had an infection a couple of months ago but it was treated and the tests didn't show anything for certain. I noticed two large spots of blood on the sheets this morning. They were both about the size of a grapefruit so it was more than spotting. I have noticed her breath smells sort of like feces the last couple of weeks. She doesn't eat it though.

  8. QUESTION:
What makes my cat's breath smell so bad?
My domestic male has breath that actually smells more like feces than regular cat breath. I use a high quality food, and my other two cats don't have bad breath. What's wrong, and what can I do about it?

    • ANSWER:
Bad breath is a sign of a health issue, it's usually bad teeth, but can be kidney disease or diabetes. In any case, he need to see the vet. Dental issues can become bad very quickly - they lead to painful abscessed teeth, and periodontal disease can lead to heart and kidney disease (just like in humans) due to all the bacteria poured into the system.

Dental treats and breath fresheners won't do a thing other than mask the real problem.

  9. QUESTION:
Why does my breath smell like feces?
My breath literally smells like feces. I've had this problem since I was 11 when I was diagnosed with Crohn's. Now I'm 16 and I still have the problem. I brush my teeth two times a day, And scrap my tongue with a scraper. I've asked my Dentist about it and he didn't give me a answer or solution. I do take Remicade could that be the culprit?

    • ANSWER:
yes, that could be the culprit. I'm sure you have tried all the cover-up remedies but since you need to take your meds and they have that affect. have you tried to chew on parsley or cilantro? these work quickly and wonderfully, and best of all, you usually get a little sprig on your plate when you order out!, you can keep it handy in a zip-lock baggie. it doesn't take much. just shove it in your pocket and whenever you need to get close-chomp chomp and you're good to go!

  10. QUESTION:
What's wrong with you people, brush your damn teeths - i'm going to suffocate?
    Imagine this,

You're in a small college classroom; a classroom where you will spend the next 1.5 hrs with a sweaty Calculus professor and a roomful of college students. If that's not torture, now add the most foul, repugnant mouths smell you've ever smelled as the general aroma of this air-tight lecture room.

It seems like that more than 50% of the students in my class never brush their teeth. There're even a couple of students who when they breath in my direction (even if it’s with their mouths closed, exhaling through their nostrils) for just a fleeting second, my whole body shakes in disgust. Perhaps only the smell of a decaying corpse is worse ( and even that not by much).

What the heck is wrong with you people. It takes more than applying a measly deodorant in the morning to not "smell."

How do you tell someone that their breath smells worse than their feces? Or should I not bother and completely disregard the smelly ones (but that’s half the people).
I wish the smelly ones would all congregate in one corner of the room, so I can sit in the other =(

    • ANSWER:
imagine working in a dental office. You don't just smell the stuff you need to clean it off for them.

  11. QUESTION:
What would cause a person to smell like feces?
i've known a guy since first grade and everyone knows he has always smelled like feces. his parents are not poor and i think he had fair hygene and he certainly knew about it because people made fun of him. years later to this day, he still smells like that. is there an underlying condition that he can't get rid of or something?

      http://askwaltstollmd.com/archives/antiper.html

"There is one other cause of body odor that has nothing to do with any of the above. If you have Leaky Gut Syndrome , your colon will leak fecal material back into your bloodstream and you will have a fecal odor in your breath and on your skin. There are only 4 ways the body has to excrete toxins: dead skin (including sweat), urine, stool and breath. If colon stuff gets back into your blood, those other sites will have that odor."

  12. QUESTION:
Why when people have bad breath it smells like poop?
Why is this? Every time i speak to someone with bad breath it smells like poop.

    • ANSWER:
it's because of the chemical compounds Methyl mercaptan and skatole, which smell like feces.

  13. QUESTION:
What does good breath smell like?
i dont know if i have bad breath or not, no one has told me i haven't. i've tried licking the back of my hand and wait for it to dry, and the smell was blehh. it wasn't like feces, but it wasn't smelling like perfume or cologne either. all i can say is that it smells like.... iunno i can't describe it.

So my question is: what does good breath smell like? or what does your breath smell like?

    • ANSWER:
Um NO..you're breath shouldn't naturally smell "minty" unless your body chemicals are made of mint leaves or you're constantly chewing mint gum. You really shouldn't have any particular taste or breath smell - but it should NOT smell like any type of food or unpleasantness.
Good breath is no breath - basically, not smelling much of anything. If you brush your teeth and your tongue and floss, you will help remove anything that's lingering in your mouth that might lay there and make it smell "bad"
I have a co-worker who's breath smells of fish in the morning. He then smells of coffee and whatever else he's eating, which is NOT supposed to be. Food belongs in your stomach, not sitting in your gums in your mouth.
As long as you wash with listerine, you're breath should stay neutral - not like cologne or perfume! lol

I had a long night last night, and woke up in my friends room, and we all have really bad breath that kinda smells like poo. I've tried brushing my teeth twice, baking soda, and gum. Nothing will work. Please help!

    • ANSWER:
Did your friend have you eat it without you knowing it? Maybe you did eat the poo. What color are your teeth? Brown???? No seriously, your problem is probably in your gums and gingivititis. My dogs breath smells like poo after a sleep. He then will lick all around his mouth for quite sometime. He is not vomiting and does not have diarrhea. He is eating and drinking like normal, though his activity level has dropped and has become very clingy. I have no idea what it could be. Please help.

    • ANSWER:
Your dog could need to go to the vet and get his teeth checked. Bacteria builds up over time and can really smell. Just like in humans. Do you regularly brush his teeth? Ask your vet for samples of tooth paste for dogs. It is generally chicken flavored and it doesn't have to be rinsed. Getting them to lt you brush the teeth is the hard part. Also your dog can ave an infection else were that you are smelling through its mouth. Also dogs will eat their feces if allowed. Clean up right after they defecate to prevent this.

  20. QUESTION:
Normal to start gagging and want to vomit from the smell of feces?
How come other people it dosent bother? How could they stand the smell? I could be around a group of people and they will just look like normal around it and i will start gagging, holding my breath and wanting to puke. Is that normal or abnormal?

    • ANSWER:
      Just a personal theory...

I grew up rurally...when I am in the country and smell the odor of freshly spread manure on the fields...I get nostalgic. It brings warm fuzzy feelings to me. When my wife (born & raised in NYC) smells the same...she finds it offensive.

I think it must be a learned response. Someone gave you very negative ideas about the smell of feces when you were young. Did you have a parent that got gaggy around poopy diapers? Somehow, you probably embroidered on the idea of how foul feces and the odor (there of) are overwhelmingly disgusting to you.

You could try "desensitizing therapy" to overcome your negative reactions.

Have to see what others think! Good question! There are some that have NO sense of smell and can handle all kinds of malodorous situations. They can make a lot of money handling really putrid things...guess that wouldn't be for you! Put some vanilla on a clean bandana and tie it around your face and mouth...before you handle the next diaper. That is my best answer!

  21. QUESTION:
I have 2 cats and the litter always smells?
I clean the litter twice a day and have switched litter numerous times but it still smells. I've tried air freshners..nothing seems to work. Anyone have any advice or ideas? I don't get how it still smells.
I work 2 jobs so clean it as much as I can and i know litter boxes smell, just any advice would help!

    • ANSWER:
Here's what I do, and I haven't had any problems with odors. In fact, anyone can stand right next to my cat's litter box and take a deep breath and not smell the slightest hint of anything stinky. I use Premium Choice litter (you can only get it at pet stores) and I scoop it out once a day. After I scoop it out, I sprinkle a generous amount of Arm and Hammer Kitty Litter Deodorizer into the litter and mix it in. I then take the clumped urine and feces outside to a trash dumpster rather than just throwing it in my trash can in my apartment. Once every two weeks or so, I dump all the litter out of the litter box, wash the litter box and then pour in fresh litter and deodorizer. Also, sometimes the food that cats eat can affect the smell. I feed my cat Science Diet, and it says on the label that it decreases odor. As I said, I've never had any odor problems at all, so maybe this will work for you, too.

  22. QUESTION:
Does any one know any natural remedies for bad breath?
I have halitosis for the past 5 years. It came on out of the blue. I also have GERD and post nasal drip I have been to multiple doctors/dentists and followed their advice meticulously and nothing seems to work, so I am now turning to homeopathy to see if a homeopathy can help cure me. This has ruined my social life and now my career is in jeopardy too. My halitosis smells offensive like feces. I have had the GERD and post nasal drip was before the halitosis developed so I am not sure if the halitosis is secondary to those conditions. A couple of other things to note I was treated for H pylori with antibiotics and shortly after this is when people began telling me about my halitosis. I can not smell it at all even if i lick the back of my hand or if cup my hands and breathe in them. I also have had constipation my whole life although in the past several years it has gotten better. I have brittle nails that break easily. Otherwise I am in pretty healthy. Any suggestions are welcome.

    • ANSWER:
You should be more intimate with your partner. Pleasing your partner will make you happy as well and your psyche will improve. Having good mental health leads to overall improved physical health. Halitosis can be improved if you are overall happy. So have more relations with your partner and you will see your breath improve. Trust and me and good luck! Your body and mind will thank you for it. Let your inhibitions go down and go wild.

She won't let me brush them. She eats chicken and kitten feces! I can't keep her away from it- we live on a farm and she finds it before I get it cleaned up. I know that by her eating stuff other than food means she is lacking something in her diet, but one issue @ a time. Also, she is a super picky eater....

  25. QUESTION:
Can someone describe how a dead human body smells like?
I am taking a creative writing class, and I normally don't write about death and killing, but for this particular passage I have to describe the armoa of a decomposing human body.

I once read that it is "undescribable", but some people have told me it smells like feces but with a rich "blood-like" aroma added to it. Others have told me it smells like burnt bacon and others told me like rotten hamburger/chicken. Others have said its a foul bacterial smell like the smell of bad breath.

    Who is right?

    • ANSWER:
It depends on the body, my sweet child. A nice Caucasian corpse often reminds me of the subtle scent of Edelweiss wafting on an Austrian mountain breeze... But oftentimes cadavers of slightly darker complexions can exude a pungent curry-like odor. Simply delectable, really.

  26. QUESTION:
Why does my dogs breath smell like fish?
It smells really gross. This just started 2 days ago. He is a 5 month old puppy. We brush his teeth and give him greenies dental chews. Do you think its the food he eats? We switched it about 2 weeks ago its excellent food (great life buffalo) but my other dog eats it as well and her breath doesn't stink. Any ideas what could be causing this? What caj I do to cure this?

    • ANSWER:
He likes to secretly eat the bitches out! Haha. I know bad joke. But seriously...fishy bad breath is quite normal in puppies caused by them teething. Check her teeth for where adult teeth may be coming in or for redness and swelling of gum. If all looks okay and he is eating okay you are probably fine. If you have a hard time checking or arent sure have your vet look. Puppies usually stop teething around 6-8 months. Make sure you also check that he isnt eating feces. Even just cleaning his hind quarters can cause bad breath especially if he has some kind of intestinal parasite. If he hasnt been vaccinated against worms Id suggest you check to make sure he doesnt have any. Chances are if his poop looks normal he doesnt but ask a vet to be sure and get him vaccinated. My personal opinion, its just thenormal bad puppy breath from teething and you just need to wait until he grows out of it. Give him ice to chew, it will help him teeth faster by loosening his puppy teeth and allowing his adult teeth to grow, as well as sooth his gums. If he doesnt want to chew it try adding something good to it like meat shavings. OR other trick is to take and old rag or tshirt and soak it in water adn freeze that and give him that to chew on. Good luck with your pup.

  30. QUESTION:
How can I get rid of bad breath when i wake up in the morning?
I have terrible breath in the morning like just when I wake up (not to gross out anyone or anything) haha but i know brushing my teeth solves it, but is there anything i can do to stop even having bad breath in the morning?
    thanks for answerss =)

    • ANSWER:
      This is your lucky day.

I have always been the kind of girl who searches for answers. I search for my own answers because I learned long ago that doctors and experts give the same advice about things, but rarely tell you simple answers that work.

Of course you must floss at least once a day and brush your teeth, gums and tongue at least twice a day. Gargling with mouthwash is an added bonus and keeps germs away. Also try to brush after your meals and drink plenty of liquids throughout the day, so your mouth does not become too dry, avoiding a lot of sugary drinks if you can. Most people are dehydrated. The body needs a lot of water to digest your food and remove toxins. Water flushes the system.

After that, a lot of bad breath comes from your stomach, especially if you eat a lot of meat/protein. Meat releases a gas, I think sulphur. Eggs do too. Eating a diet high in protein will give you bad breath, so balance it out with some carbohydrates, like a dinner roll or slice of bread.

      Next, my greatest secret:

Go to a health food store or the Vitamin Shoppe and purchase chlorophyll tablets. The Vitamin Shoppe has some in 50 mg softgel tabs. There are 90 softgels per bottle, and I usually order 4 bottles at a time. I think they cost approximately each. Start taking around 2 tabs per day. Your feces will certainly turn green, but your breath will be great. I take mine before I eat in the morning. Chlorophyll acts as an "internal" deodorant. It goes through your gut and gets rid of body odors. If you make it a regular part of your diet, you won't worry too much if you accidently "pass gas" or have a "bowel movement" at a friend's house. It won't smell too strong. And when you wake in the morning, your breath will no longer be a problem.

I'm a health nut so I also sometimes take a super green foods tablet that also contains chlorophyll.

Another thing I do before I go to a dentist is I floss and brush my teeth first and then drink hot lemonade. I squeeze one or two fresh lemons into a small mug and add water and a lot of sugar/sweetener to it. It should be very concentrated. Then I put the mug in the microwave and drink it like hot tea. Sometimes I transfer it into a thermal mug and drink it on the way to the dentist.

It works every time. When I see a dentist, my breath is always fresh and sweet. When the hygienist buffs my teeth after a cleaning, she NEVER ever uses the minty paste. She uses the fruity one because my breath is already very fresh.

Try it. I'm sure you and your loved ones will like the change.

how to cope with bad breath around friends?
ive realised that ive had bad breath for a year or so now. And ive reached the conclusion that it is not possible to get rid of it completely. You can mask it, or remove it for a little while but it always comes back, well at least in my case.

Ok, so my breath smells like crap, literally. Yes it smells like faeces, lol its sort of funny but still I just want some tips on how to remain social, how to talk to people without plaguing them with my breath. Anyway some tips or advice would be great :D

  34. QUESTION:
Bloated 2 1/2 wk old puppy with bad smelling breath doesnt smell like puppy breath like the rest of the litter
I just gave her and the litter some dewormer how long does it usually take to see results? Also if I dont see any results what should I do give her more or could not even be worms?

    • ANSWER:
Is the puppy eating and drinking and having bowel movements? If not, you have a very sick puppy, one that almost certainly has a bowel obstruction of some sort. This is a life-threatening situation that will NOT resolve itself on its on, but will require surgery to correct. It's not unusual for an irritated bowel in a puppy to develope what's called in "Intusseption", which means that a section of bowel actually "telescopes" up inside itself. If not treated, it will lead to organ failure, peritonitis and death. If the puppy's breath smell like feces, you're dealing with something far worse than a case of worms, and need to get the puppy to a vet ASAP! Not all wormers work on all worms, by the way; whipworms are among the most dangerous and can quickly kill a puppy, and they are not affected by any over-the-counter wormer, but require wormers that are only available by veterinary prescription following a postitive microscopic diagnosis. Often, pups with whipworms can become anemic so fast that they will need blood transfusions and/or other IV fluids to keep them alive long enough for the wormer to work.

  35. QUESTION:
Why is my kitten such a stinker?
Okay, this is a kind of silly question, but I've noticed that my kitten has TERRIBLE breath! When I hold her she's just so smelly! I have another cat, who ate the same kitten food as the baby, and she never smelled bad. The kitten's poop also smells heinous as well. Now I know poop never smells good, but this is the kind that clears the room, well, half the house out to be honest!

Have any ideas about why my kitty is such a stinker?
She was dewormed (never tested for them, but vet reccommended anyway) 2 times this past month.

    • ANSWER:
Hi there...generally, when a cat exhibits bad breath it could be a result of either periodontal, kidney, respiratory or liver disease to diabetes, skin disease (involving tissue around the lips) or oral trauma, such as electric cord injury, which could contribute the foul smelling faeces as well. All which will require a veterinarian's evaluation to treat respectively.

  36. QUESTION:
how to stop my beagle to stop eating his poop?
When I let my dog out at night he likes to eat his poop weather its dry or wet. Then when he comes in his breath really smells bad

    • ANSWER:
There are a wide variety of ways to do this, although they can be
very frustrating, since every piece of something that your dog
shouldn’t eat needs to be covered with it. However, if no other
dog potty training methods work, try placing some bitter orange,
super hot sauce or Tabasco on every ‘piece’ to deter consumption.

      From another website:
      1. Consult a veterinarian specializing in animal behavior about this complex problem, called coprophagia. Although veterinarians and animal behaviorists are unsure what causes the disorder, it can often be controlled with behavioral modification or drug therapy when it's properly diagnosed.

      2. Buy a food additive - such as Deter or Forbid - or dry kibble that makes feces unappetizing to dogs, and add it to your dog's food if he's into eating his own. These products contain a chemical, monosodium glutamate, that is made bitter tasting during the digestive process.

      3. Train your dog to defecate on demand, so that you're present and can pick up the feces immediately. If your dog defecates when you're not present, pick up the feces as soon as you can.

      4. Take your dog out on a leash. Jerk the leash when he heads toward feces, and reward him when he doesn't approach it. Use this method until your dog learns not to approach feces.

      5. Be sure to hide the litter box, or deny access to your dog when visiting a home with a cat.

      Tips:
The best way to stop this behavior is to keep your dog away from feces. This may require extra diligence on your part.

Hope i helped good luck! (:

  37. QUESTION:
How can i get my dog to be smellin less nasty?
I know i know dogs are like always smelly
But i always bathe her every wednesday but when i take her out i want her to be smellin good and right now she smells bad how can i make her smell less bad but without bathing her becuz dog skin gets super rough soooo

    • ANSWER:
Find out why she tends to smell unpleasant so quickly. It could be her breath: She "cleans" herself and makes her coat stink. This could be easily fixed OTC. Older dogs tend to have a problem with this.
Some breeds are smelly. My ex-wife briefly owned a cocker spaniel. That dog was foul. It is my understanding that some dogs have glands that can cause unpleasant odors. Check with you vet.
If your dog is always inside, this could be a hygiene issue. Do you suspect it is from urine or feces? Once again, this could be a problem with an older dog.
I have two mixed breeds (Chief is St. Bernard and Collie and Biscuit is a classic mutt). They are bigger dogs and roam free around my home. The biggest problem I have is they tend to roll in scat. Since my wife keeps horses, this can be a problem if the dung isn't cleaned up quickly. I bathe the dogs about every 10 days. As long as I keep the horse poop out of our yard, my dogs stay pretty clean (... save for when they happen to kill a possum or rabbit... horrible breath!).
I wish you and your dog the best! I hope you find a reasonable solution. Good luck!

  38. QUESTION:
Is it okay to have a hamster while pregnant?
I really want a little pet hamster, but am 18 weeks pregnant. Is this safe with regards to health issues? I know, for example, that pregnant women cannot clean cat liter boxes because of a chemical in their feces that can harm the fetus. Does this hold true for hamsters too? I really want one. :-)

    • ANSWER:
Oh my goodness woman its fine lol!!!!

They say to not do tons of things while pregnant. If you clean the hamster cage, just put a shirt over your face so you don't have to smell the urine/poop.

I have cats/dogs and I am 12 weeks. My doc never told me to get rid of em, she just said to try not to clean the litter too often.
Some say to not dye your hair while pregnant, while others say its fine. Some say dont take hot showers while pregnant, some say its fine blah blah blah. Do you put gas in your car? Do you breath the horrible filthy air outside? (Yes it is filthy). You cant stop doing everything!

  39. QUESTION:
Why do my feet smell bad after exercising?
This has just started to happen. I exercise 3-4 times a week and I've been doing this same routine for 4 years now. What is causing this and how can I fix it?

    • ANSWER:
Human sweat is very close to the makeup of urine. That's right, we basically sweat pee, although there is some difference and urine is sterile. The combination of warmth and perspiration is a perfect environment for bacteria to grow, particularly in your shoes. What you are smelling is not your sweat. The odor is caused by the feces left by the bacteria that lives and breeds in your sweat. The smell is germ poop. The bacteria feeds on your sweat and dead skin cells. Then it takes a crap in your socks and you smell the result.

The same goes for the odor of bad breath. It is the leftover feces of the bacteria growing in the mouth. I know it's gross but true.

Wash your feet thoroughly. Scrub them with soap and hot water. Don't just stand in the shower and let the water run on them. Use a foot powder or anti fungal spray before putting on your socks. They are available at any drug store.

  40. QUESTION:
How do you stop dog smell?
My little pup stinks, is there a way i can get rid off it because he's clean
He had a bath last week and he's only 4 months old. I have been told not to wash him again.

    • ANSWER:
When a dog begins to emit doggy odor, closely inspect the dog from head to tail. Check the ears for debris, red skin, and odor. If an ear infection is present, it could be the result of the dog's ears not being properly ventilated. Ear infections are common in dogs with ears that are floppy or folded over. If the dog's ears are not properly ventilated, the inside becomes moist and warm, and infection can easily result. If an infection is present, take the dog to a vet. Never use Q-tips on your dog's ears.

Look in the dog's mouth for plaque buildup on the teeth, and for discolored or missing teeth. In addition to the well-known "dog breath," additional odor may be coming from the dog's mouth as a result of food buildup and poor oral hygiene. Feed the dog special plaque fighting dog biscuits daily. Get the dog's teeth cleaned as needed by your vet.

Check the dog's feet; there may be a cut or infection on the dog's foot pads. This type of injury should be immediately cleaned and bandaged. Run your fingers through the dog's coat, and make sure you inspect all sides of the coat. There may be a concealed skin injury underneath the fur. Also, check for an oily or greasy texture on the coat. The coat might be producing dandruff or the skin may be flaky. Injuries should be seen by a vet. One of the most prominent areas for odor generation is the dog's backside. There could be anal infection, a buildup of feces on the dog's coat, or the dog might be constipated or have diarrhea, both of which will produce significant odor. You can carefully trim the dog's backside with scissors to remove feces. A vet should treat an anal infection or impacted anal glands.

If your dog is exhibiting odor and may have an infection or illness, take measures to protect it. Make a dog-care schedule for your dog. Also, take the dog to a vet for a checkup.

Brushing dogs on a daily basis helps to reduce smell, remove excess fur, and stimulate new hair growth. Dogs need to be kept clean, but caution must be taken not to give too many baths. If the dog is bathed every week, the coat is deprived of natural oils. As a result, over- bathing can increase odor. A dog should be bathed once a month using warm water, dog shampoo, a washcloth, and towels.

Part of maintaining a clean home includes washing animal bedding, play toys, and the dog's collar. After washing bedding, make sure that the bedding is completely dry before allowing the dog to sleep on it. If the bedding has been removed from the dryer or brought in from a clothes line, vacuum the bedding with a small hand vacuum; this will remove any debris that was left by the dryer.

  41. QUESTION:
Does anyone else have this problem? Is it normal or should I see a doctor?
I've been told by a friend that sometimes my breath has the same scent as my vagina. Has anyone ever heard of this? Should I be worried and see a doctor or is that pretty normal?
Yah close friend...now could u answer the question, please?

    • ANSWER:
      Hello....

This is not normal........ that should be your first red flag...

Breath odor is the scent of the air you breathe out of your mouth. Unpleasant, distinctive, or offensive breath odor is commonly called bad breath, also called Halitosis.

Sometimes a good teeth cleaning can take care of bad breath... teeth cleaning is the cheapest way out... if after dental cleaning the problem still persists... then it is likely there is an underlying cause that could be medicaly related........ at your teeth cleaning you may want to discuss this issue with your dental hygenist...... she may also have some suggestions for you...............
I would definetly set up an appointment for a cleaning ASAP.....

      Some info for you............
A fruity odor to the breath occurs as the body attempts to get rid of excess acetone through the breathing. This is a sign of ketoacidosis, which may occur in diabetes. It is a potentially life-threatening condition.

Breath that smells like feces can occur with prolonged vomiting, especially when there is a bowel obstruction. It may also occur temporarily if a person has a tube placed through the nose or mouth to the stomach to drain the stomach contents (nasogastric tube) in place.

The breath may have an ammonia-like odor (also described as urine-like or "fishy") in people with chronic kidney failure.

If previously normal breath turns into halitosis, causes could include:
      Abscessed tooth
      Alcoholism
      Cavities
      Dentures
      Drugs
Food or beverages consumed (such as cabbage, garlic, raw onions, or coffee)
Foreign body in the nose (usually in children)
Often (but not always) there is a white, yellowish, or bloody discharge from one nostril
      Gum disease (gingivitis, gingivostomatitis)
      Impacted tooth
      Lung infection
      Poor dental hygiene
      Sinusitis
      Throat infection
      Tobacco smoking
Vitamin supplements (especially in large doses)
Diseases that may be associated with breath odor (not presented in order of likelihood -- some are extremely unlikely):
      Acute necrotizing ulcerative gingivitis
      Acute necrotizing ulcerative mucositis
      Acute renal failure
Bowel obstruction (can cause breath to smell like feces)
      Bronchiectasis
Chronic renal failure (can cause breath to smell like ammonia)
Diabetes (fruity or sweet chemical smell with ketoacidosis)
      Esophageal cancer
      Gastric carcinoma
      Gastrojejunocolic fistula (fruity-smelling breath)
      Hepatic encephalopathy
      Diabetic ketoacidosis
      Lung abscess
      Ozena, or atrophic rhinitis
      Periodontal disease
      Pharyngitis
      Zenker's diverticulum

You should contact your doctor if....
Breath odor persists and there is not an obvious cause (such as smoking or eating odor-causing foods).
You have breath odor and signs of a respiratory infection, such as fever, cough, or face pain with discharge from the nose...

  42. QUESTION:
When a dog goes in for an operation?
What is that smell they have about them when they come out. It only lasts for the night.

    Is it the anaesthetic?
Is it coming from their breath or there skin.
    Why?
I hate the smell it makes me feel ill but I am curious to know what it is?
Edit : I am not sure where exactly it comes from as like I said it makes me feel sick. You can smell it when the dog is in the car not reallly at home because there is more fresh air I suppose.

I smelt the same thing when she was spayed and when she had a lump removed.

    • ANSWER:
      Dot,

When a dog undergoes anesthsia, the anesthetic gets into all of their body systems. There are actually 2 components to anesthesia- 1 acts as a paralyzer. It paralyzes the muscles to that you can't move. It's also to keep the muscles from spasming during the surgery. The second component is the actually medication that causes you to go to sleep. These medications are easily absorbed by the body, and do hang out a while.

I don't know the specifics, but the smell is your dog's body's way of excreting the medication. Everything that goes in the body comes out somehow, somewhere. Some comes out in your urine, some in feces, some in your breath, some in sweat. But, it all must come out somewhere.

Hope your baby is doing well!

  43. QUESTION:
What chemicals compound or element can be added to render urine odourless?
I wish to undertake a sanitary project where urine can be converted to water and other compunds in portable gadgets.

    • ANSWER:
chlorophyllin /chlo·ro·phyl·lin/ (klor´o-fil-in) any of the water-soluble salts from chlorophyll; used topically and orally for deodorizing skin lesions and orally for deodorizing the urine and feces in colostomy, ileostomy, and incontinence; used particularly in the form of the copper complex.

I heard about this product a long time ago... still around so it probably works... Called body Mint... you might be able to figure out what chemicals this product works with.

  44. QUESTION:
Why do I have a coated tongue?
I always have a thick light brownish coating on my tongue. I have a disgusting taste in my mouth and I'm sure my breath smells. When I have scraped it off it smells revolting, like feces. I went to the doctor and she said buy a tongue scraper which I didn't think was helpful. I want to cure it by finding out what causes this. Can anyone shed any light as to what's wrong?

    • ANSWER:
I have the same problem, it's probably candida/yeast infection. It can also be worsened if your mouth & gums are dry, like if you sleep with your mouth wide open at night etc. You can get a capsule to rid your body of candida (over the counter) at the chemist, and see if it helps. I brush my tongue hard with a toothbrush and lots of tooth paste, gargle, use chewing gum. It helps my breath but it comes back within hours.

  45. QUESTION:
How to get rid of bad breath quick!!!?
Ok ive for a huge problem, i am constipated and passed only a small bit of faeces in the past week so could this be why i have bad breath? Do you think i will vomit as i havnt emptied my bowels?? Helppp i need to get rid of this bad breath as im meeting a man in a bit!

    • ANSWER:
Drink water to help your system have the liquid it needs to operate properly. Brush and floss your teeth and then clean your tongue. Most of you bad breath is coming from the top of your tongue where bacteria live and produce those bad smells. Look at the top of your tongue for some white stuff. Clean off all this white stuff.
On a longer term basis as part of your oral hygiene you should get an OraBrush tongue cleaner. I have used one for 6 months with great success. I keeps my breath kissing sweet.

  46. QUESTION:
Another gross animal question - why does my dog suddenly have really bad breath?
Okay. I went to work. When I left, my dog did not have bad breath.

Our dog walker didn't show up today, so my dog was unattended all day :(

When I got home, his breath was rank. Awful. Never smelled worse.

What could cause this? Should I be concerned?

Could he have thrown up and then eaten it?

    • ANSWER:
Dogs will eat some pretty disgusting things without a second thought, including vomit and feces. If the bad breath continues, consult a vet as it could be a sign of liver problems. Your sudden onset, however, is more likely due to something the dog ate.

  47. QUESTION:
Why does my breath smell like feces?
I brush twice a day, use floss daily, rinse with non-alcoholic mouthwash. It's the back of my mouth where my wisdom teeth/molars are growing in.... I don't know if it could be food getting stuck where it is growing in and me not being able to reach it with a toothbrush, but I need it to go away because I have a big interview on Monday!
Ps. Alcoholic mouthwash intensifies the smell.

    • ANSWER:
Simple. Your eating your poop! Duh!
      --
No; JK! I have no clue. Try alcoholic mouthwash instead.

  48. QUESTION:
Does anyone suffer from faecal body odour?
I suffer from faecal body odour, in that a smell of faeces is constantly emitting from me. I shower every day so its not a personal hygiene problem as such. I've said this to my doctor but he just dismissed the problem. I'm wondering if anyone suffers from this condition or IBS what treatment have you used and what do you recommend? Thanks

    • ANSWER:
This type of odor is caused by certain amino acids such as tryptophan and tyrosine that are constituents of sweat. Bacteria that live on the skin (normal bacteria that you can't entirely get rid of) convert the amino acids into substances such as indole, skatole, and p-cresol, or other chemicals that give poop its odor. Most of the time, people do not secrete enough amino acids to create a noticeable fecal odor from sweating. Sometimes, people lack one or more enzymes needed to completely break down certain food constituents, and excess metabolic products are excreted through the sweat, breath, or urine. One metabolic problem that can cause fecal odor is a pyridoxine deficiency - vitamin B-6 is used to treat pyridoxine deficiency, but generally, the underlying cause for fecal body odor is unknown. Its possible that a thorough blood analysis by an endocrinologist or internal medicine specialist might reveal an obvious cause and a possible solution. You could also experiment with diet to see if it the smell changes when eating certain types of foods. For example, you could try eating mostly proteins for several days, then try nothing but vegetable for a few days, and try another span with nothing but carbohydrates. None of these dietary changes would be a solution, thy might only help a doc identify what type of metabolic pathway is involved so a treatment might be devised.

It may also be possible to change the bacterial species that live on your skin by trying different hygeine approaches. One way to do this is to stop using soap for a week or two, avoid soaking in tubs and any other thing that may dry out your skin or remove skin oils, use a very small amount of a mild cleanser such Nutrogena body clear. Wash you towels, wash clothes, and bedding and Try several other mild cleansers if Nutrogena doesn't work. It might also be possible that a broad-spectrum antibiotic given for 10-14 days might change the bacterial composition on the skin. You could ask your doc about this.

  49. QUESTION:
What makes puppy breath smell the way it does?

    • ANSWER:
Puppy breath is like that new car smell. It doesn't last very long.

Puppy breath is caused by a mild diet of milk, puppy food, and digestive enzymes. As dogs age and develop bacteria in their mouths, this smell changes to dog breath (like a stinky car).

Bad puppy breath can be caused by worms, eating feces, and gum disease. It doesn't smell fresh - it smells nasty.

I love puppy breath - it's sweet, like puppies.

Did you ever notice that their feet smell like Fritos corn chips?

  50. QUESTION:
Why does my lab eat poop?
He eats poo almost everytime we go outside for a potty break. We live in a wooded area so he does his "buisness" in the woods. After that, he snniffs at something in there and starts eating it!! I'm guessing it's poo because his breath smells horrible, and his mouth is all black/brown! Please help me!!!!

    • ANSWER:
iT IS A MYTH THEY ARE LACKING SOMETHING IN THEIR DIET

.Dogs will commonly eat their own as well as other animals' feces. Puppies are known to eat their own excrement during paper training and housebreaking, and it is believed to be due to a combination of physiological and behavioral factors.

On the physiological side, since the digestion of food is not always complete, puppies still see nutrient value in their feces and view it as a snack. Often dogs are attracted to undigested rice, corn or peanuts in their stool if they happen to consume these foods. Maximizing digestion can help solve this problem. To do so, add enzyme supplements to their food, such as meat tenderizer (from the supermarket), papaya extract (a natural enzyme available at health food stores) or products from pet supply stores especially designed to help dogs digest. Mix the enzyme powder in each meal, and let it sit for 15 minutes prior to feeding it to your pet. This should eliminate the presence of anything they view as "good" in their stool. It will not help with the peanuts or corn, but these foods should not be fed to your pet in any event.

Another way to discourage coprophagy (the medical term for eating poop) is to coat the stools with hot sauce or vinegar, thereby making the experience of eating it unpleasant (as if it seemed great thus far!). Sometimes owners have to go to the extreme measure of injecting the stool with hot sauce so the pet gets the full extent of the bad flavor. Yet another method is through products which taste good when mixed in the pet's food and eaten, but turn bitter when excreted in the pet's feces (isn't science great?). Doing this or the hot sauce method for one to two weeks is usually enough to convince a dog that their food bowl is a safer spot for snacks.
